Superbowl, Shmuperbowl

Yeah, I'll sit patiently in front of the television in between plays to watch the latest and greatest commercials ads that Corporate America has to offer. However, when the final whistle blows and the hoopla dies down....IT'S ALL STAR SURVIVOR NIGHT!

I have watched all of the Survivor series, it's one of the very few "reality" shows in which I invest my time. And while this season is indeed going to be more interesting with the return of familiar faces and new teamings and twists and unknown factors (like when and how will they merge?), I can't help but wonder a little bit about the set up.

The contestants are:

4 from the Original Series: Richard Hatch (winner), Rudy Boesch, Sue Hawk and Jenna Lewis.

5 from the Australia Series: Tina Wesson (winner), Colby Donaldson, and Amber Brkich, Jerri Manthey and Alicia Calaway.

3 from the Africa Series: Ethan Zohn (winner), Lex van den Berghe and Tom Buchanan.

2 from the Marquesas Series: Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien and Rob Mariano.

1 from the Thailand Series: Shii Ann Huang.

2 from the Amazon Series: Jenna Morasca (winner), and Rob Cesternino.

1 from the Pearl Islands: Rupert Boneham

I understand the marketing idea of bringing back the most interesting characters, both liked and disliked. I would have preferred that none of the winners were on, but that's not a great big deal, I guess. But since they wanted 18 players, and there have been 6 seasons, wouldn't it have made sense to have 3 from each season? Because there are going to be alliances going into this game. Don't think for one second that the 5 from Australia don't have a better chance of making it further than my lone pal Rupert. Although Rupert will have an advantage in that this season takes place on the same location as last season and he is a brilliant provider, he's teamed against 2 from Aussieland and 2 from the original series.

What's up with Thailand? Was no one interested? I don't believe that! What about Clay? He's at LEAST as interesting as Shii. I seriously doubt that Brian, the winner, wouldn't be up for a second go at it. So it wouldn't have been difficult to choose 3 from that series. What about Paschel or Rob? I hated Robb, but he made a lasting impression. What about Keith from Australia? He placed higher than Amber and was a great guy!

I have nothing to even say about my buddy Rupert. He'll be picked off early and I will be deeply disappointed. He's who I would most like to see win, and Richard Hatch is who I least want to see win, if for nothing else his sheer arrogance about it all. I have a feeling the winner will be from the Australian group, it just would have been nice if the deck wasn't so stacked going in. See, I really LOVE this show. While not a betting person, I found the winning odds for those of you who are.
