The Day After

Am I glad it's over? I dunno. I guess so. But now it's time to clean it all up! I don't think anyone (in my family) walked away from this holiday disappointed.

Christmas Eve is always at my mom's house. It has been for 18 years (at least) and will be forever. Done deal. Finchie loves the Eve better than the actual morning! My little sister who is also engaged seemed calmer and more relaxed and happier than I've seen her in her adult life. Tons of laughter, and gifts that couldn't have been thought out more perfectly. Heck, I even got to say the prayer before dinner! For the first time ever, we were the last of the kids to leave for home.

Morning found MOTH and I sipping coffee and wondering if the kids would EVER wake up! Finchie emerged first looking like Elmer Fudd muttering about the birds in his room waking him (they are temporarily relocated to accomodate the Christmas trimmings). "I need a shotgun!" I put on some Christmas music, he woke his siblings and finally the ripping and tearing began and I there were oohs and ahs and lots of happy surprises for everyone including me! We spent the rest of the day the way it should be spent. Going nowhere and doing nothing but playing with our new toys and resting.

Today the kids are sleeping in (so did I), MOTH is back at work. I'm not really sure where to begin, but I think I better tuck in right now or I never will.

I hope everyone has a chance in their lives to experience the kind of Christmas I just had. Love, warmth, generosity, family, laughter, caring and acceptence. It just doesn't get any better than that. Except, I thought that last year, and this year topped it!
