My War Post

It seems as if everyone has an opinion about the war. Why not? It is a big deal. We had the sonic booms yesterday overhead. Scared the shit out of us all, hearing explosion-like sounds from the skies above us. I was way to young to fully understand or fear what was happening in Vietnam, and the draft ended just before my peers would have been called up. So I have been as untouched by war as my children, really. I know it sounds callous, and it is, but I was pretty unfazed by the Gulf War also. It happened so fast, and no one I knew at that time was involved. It came and went so quickly, not fast enough for those involved, I know.

So ANYWAY...I thought about it, and thought I could rip out a post about how dreadful war is. However, I got a request from MOTH to post something I wrote a while back. A few years ago, we took a trip of importance. I introduced him to my most favorite place on the earth, Niagara Falls. And he took me to an important place for him, Gettysburg. We spent the entire day there. That night, at the hotel, he challenged me to write my impressions of what I'd seen within a 30 minute time limit. He liked doing that, and I liked doing it (I still do). Anyway, he loved what I wrote. And since it deals with the images of war, I thought it was an appropriate piece to share.

I hope you enjoy it.
