A Horrible Shame

Dammit. What could be so bad in a 14 year old's life that hanging himself seems like the better option?

This morning I woke feeling sorry for myself, that my Eldest is going away to college in 2 more days. Then I found out that I will be spending tomorrow at the funeral of one of my students. College doesn't seem so bad to me now.

Andrew (last name delted)
Andrew, age 15, of North Aurora, passed away August 16, 2002. He was born August 3, 1987, to Eddie and Diana, in Aurora, Illinois.

Andrew loved being outside and enjoyed archery, working in the yard, skating, hunting and camping with his grandpa. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, whom he loved. Andrew is survived by his parents...

Correction. His parents remain breathing. But how does a parent survive the death of their own child? Especially when taken by his own hand?

Sorry. No funny lines today, no quotes, no digital update. Just a prayer for every child and adolescent (and adult, for that matter) out there who thinks he or she is alone and no one can possibly understand their pain and who thinks that not feeling anything is a better alternative. It isn't. How can we convince them of that?

Andrew, I am so sorry that life overwhelmed you. I am so sorry that you felt that there was no one who could help you through it. I am so sorry that I am spending the last day of summer vacation at your funeral. I am just so very very sad over this whole thing.
