You make some very valid and intelligent points and express your self very eloquently, (sp). You are much more read than I am. I am always willing to listen to others and weigh all the pros and cons. Glad you updated. You're always missed when your gone.

first, i totally miss you without the regualr updates and i hope you and moth and the rest of the family are doing well. second, *standing ovation* very well said. i am the sister of a Marine, in case you couldn't tell by the name, who volunteered seven years ago when he was only 17 to serve and protect his country. my brother has not yet been to iraq but he has lost several friends over there and he believes in his heart that we are doing the right thing. he trusts our president. he is scared to re-enlist if kerry is elected. he probably will, because the military is his life, but he has no trust for kerry. i watched bush on tv in the days following 9/11. i listened to his speeches and i believed him when he said that the terrorists would not win, that we would do everything in our power to dismatle their base of power. and i still believe him. yes, a young Marine who used to come stay at my house on weekends and helped my paint my living room and watched movies with us and cooked out with us and ate at our dinner table is dead, killed in iraq. and it hurts to know that. but we talked when my brother brought him home, late at night on the porch, myself, my brother and him, and they told me that they were not just doing their jobs, but they were doing what they were meant to do with their lives, and that makes me proud to have known him. i'm sorry that this turned out to be so rambling but i have a lot of pent up issues about this election. i am sick of the dirty tricks and the slander and the lies and the one sided media, and i am tired of hearing how bush is sending our children off to die in a war that we shouldn't be in. i sleep better at night knowing that my brother, and his brothers are giving everything they have to protect us all, and we haven't had to do a thing to earn it. anyway, thanks again for your comments, it's nice to know i'm not the only person in dland who is going to vote for bush.

I'll echo Cindy's comments. I served in Vietnam (and did ALL of my 2 tours, not just a few months) and my step-son is serving in the Army and has been to Iraq, in BOTH "Gulf Wars". He has had friends wounded and killed there and was almost killed himself. (see http://www.cobra74creations.com/ambush/page1.htm for his story) Who is he voting for? Who are all his buddies voting for? Not the "warrior" John Kerry. I'm told that some of the Bush bumpers stickers I sent him now grace some of the Apache Longbows that Mr. Kerry wanted to cancel. Let the "Boss" campaign for Kerry all day, I'll listen to those who are shedding their blood for the USA.

I don't feel safe with Bush. Piglet, look at what's going on in Afghanistan, and then tell me you feel safe. Cash crop in that country - heroin. Non-cash crop in that country - terrorists. Economy - non-existent. Who made the decision to pull out most of the US special forces, and $$ out of that country to enable a war in Iraq - President GWB. Hmmm, I think fistfulls of quickly obtained, liquid cash in the hands of terrorists is much more frightening than GWB out of office. And, I really don't think your characterization of Kerry is fair or based in fact. He does have a clue, it just doesn't happen to agree with the President's views.

Actually, the "cash crop" in Afghanistan is opium...and has been for a 100 years or more. But that's not one of the things we hear. And there's more Special Ops in Afghanistan than in Iraq. As far as terrorists in Afghanistan getting that "cash crop" money? Probably but not nearly as easily now as they will when we have pulled all our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. And the United Nations has moved in. (Remember the scandals involving the UN...)

I think my characterization of Kerry is entirely fair and biased, and formed from watching the words coming from his mouth in the face of facts. He doesn't appear to have any problem saying whatever, regardless of facts or ethics (especially when using Dick Cahney's daughter's name!). The last time I had a real problem with this was when Clinton looked squarely into the camera and stated his bold faced lie "I did NOT have sexual relations with that girl." ANd the media and the democrats continued to spin that into it being an issue of his sexual life being none of my business. I didn't give a crap about who or what he fucked. When he lies right to my face, and then says he felt it was ok to do so, THEN I have a problem. I digress. I have watched Kerry. I see him as a man who either doesn't know when facts are not facts or he is an outright liar. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when I said he doesn't have a clue. Let's see who shows what kind of character when the polling is over. And if GW whines and litigates and carries on like Gore did, then I will have lost respect for him too. But I don't think that will happen, I think it will be Kerry who lines up and challenges every State he loses.

Actually, cobra, the Taliban destroyed the opium crop, along with the former cash crop - pistachios - when they razed and burned all of the country under their regime. Now, without economical resources, farmers are going to the crop that gets them the best return on their work investment so they can feed their family. That's poppies. And that's the plant that gives us opium and heroin. Afghanistan is now the leading exporter of heroin. And, Piglet, Kerry is not Clinton. I have the same feelings about GWB as you have about Kerry. I've watched GWB. However, I would try not to say that he has no clue. Nobody gets as far as either of they have without a brain. The current President just doesn't match up to what I want for a leader. And, I think the safety thing is a smoke-and-mirrors issue - no one could have protected us from 9/11, and I am trusting that the administration will do all in its power to make sure Americans are safe - no matter which party is in there. However, they aren't wizards, and there are no guarantees. Not with people willing to blow themselves up, along with innocents.
